Developing My First Analog SFX

We got a double post today!

Hello folks,

Yesterday I completed my second sound from my ongoing foray into sound design and synthesis. This sound is a bubbly FX sound. I was inspired to develop this type of sound while I was remixing a song for a friend when, suddenly, I thought about the song Dream Weaver by Gary Wright... where it has that strange sound effect in the beginning (you know the one I'm talking about). I thought a similar sound would fit well into the break of the song I was working on, but upon listening to Dream Weaver, I decided that the profile of the sound fit, but I needed a different timbre.

I am still relatively new to sound synthesis, so I didn't exactly know how to make the sound. I mean, there are guys out there who can make the Mini Moog sound exactly like an airplane taking off. Anyway, I found a present which had a bubbly sound and reverse engineered it to see what was going on. My conclusion was that (I believe) aggressive manipulation of the filter results in its self-oscillation and then it's just a matter of controlling it will the proper flavor of the LFO... and once some additional reverb and effects are applied, I was able to get the sound I wanted, further automating it for some rhythmic variety in the track.

In any case, I was able to play around enough that I know how to create the effect. However, I believe it means sacrificing one of the oscillators (sound generators) available.
