Developing Sound on the Mini Moog! (new sound added to the sound design section of the website)

Greetings! I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather before the REAL COLD weather comes in (winter is my least favorite season, but I do love being inside bundled up, drinking something warm on a cold day!)

When learning to design sound, there are a few good strategies. The two I like most are watching videos about the technical aspects and also the sound creation tutorials... additionally, and probably my most favorite way, is deconstructing synth presets...

After familiarizing myself with the principles and intricacies of sound synthesis, I did just that and broke down some of the presets for the Mini Moog... especially the bass tones. The Mini Moog is great for bass sounds, as there is a lot of warmness and fatness inherent to the machine. Some early examples of this can be heard on the 70s funk songs from Parliament such as Flashlight. Once you hear it, you'll instantly recognize that classic bass sound!

In all actuality, developing such a sound really isn't that hard with the proper foundation in how the Mini Moog works. I basically combined some square waves with a saw wave and white noise... properly attenuated the high frequencies with the filter at the correct timing. All in all, it took about 30 minutes and I came up with a nice bass pluck sound with a little bit of a noise generated impact on the attack of the sound. I think it has the potential for some nice lines and runs. Opening up the filter with midi automation had quite a nice effect as well.

Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how Wix would let me post the song right here. I actually don't think there is a way. I probably could get it in with some JavaScript, but I don't really have the time to fiddle with it right now as I'd rather move onto designing a pad. You'll click on the link below and visit my sound design sections for me won't you? Pretty pleeeease.
